Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 4, 2026

1. Overview

This Privacy Policy describes what information Marquis collects, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to the Marquis website, browser extension, and any related services (collectively, the "Service").

2. Information you provide

  • Account information — when you sign in, we receive your name, email address, and a unique identifier from your identity provider.
  • Recording content — audio you capture through the extension, plus the transcript, translation, and AI-generated structured summary derived from it.
  • Preferences — settings such as your target language and your preferred display mode (side panel or floating bar).
  • Support communications — messages you send to us when you ask for help.

3. Information collected automatically

  • Device and browser information — browser type, operating system, language, screen size, and similar technical details.
  • Usage data — pages viewed, features used, timestamps, and approximate location derived from your IP address.
  • Diagnostic data — crash reports and error logs that help us keep the Service stable.

4. How we use information

We use the information we collect to:
  • Provide, maintain, and improve the Service, including transcription, translation, and AI-structured summaries.
  • Authenticate you and keep your recordings private to your account.
  • Respond to your support requests.
  • Detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, and security issues.
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms.

5. Recording content and AI processing

Audio you capture is transmitted securely to processing providers that perform speech recognition and translation, and to an AI model that generates the structured summary view. We do not use your recording content, transcripts, or summaries to train any general-purpose AI model. Processing providers are bound by contract to use your data only to provide the requested service.

6. Sharing of information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as follows:
  • Service providers — vendors that host our infrastructure, send transactional email, process payments, perform speech recognition, perform translation, or provide AI summarization, all under contractual confidentiality and data-protection obligations.
  • Legal and safety — when we believe in good faith that disclosure is required by law, legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users or the public.
  • Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, subject to standard confidentiality protections.

7. Data retention

We keep your recordings and account information for as long as your account is active. When you delete a recording, it is removed from our active systems and purged from backups within thirty days. When you delete your account, all associated content is deleted within thirty days, except where retention is required by law or to resolve disputes.

8. Security

We use industry-standard administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information, including encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, and audit logging. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete the personal information we hold about you, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can exercise these rights from your account settings or by contacting us. You can also stop using the Service and delete your account at any time.

10. International transfers

Your information may be processed in countries other than the one in which you live. When we transfer personal information across borders, we use safeguards such as standard contractual clauses to protect it.

11. Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.

12. Browser extension permissions

The Marquis extension requests only the permissions it needs to listen to the active tab, display captions, and synchronize your preferences across the extension surfaces. It does not read content from pages you do not actively use it on, and it does not transmit page content other than the audio you choose to capture.

13. Cookies and similar technologies

We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, and measure how the Service is used. You can control cookies through your browser settings, though disabling them may affect functionality.

14. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make a material change, we will notify you through the Service or by email. The "Last updated" date at the top of this Policy indicates when it was most recently revised.
